    Providing amazing meals

    by Castlegarnews, 6 months ago

Greek oven is our neighbor. I don't even know if they have any days off . Seems like they are always working. By being able to take out a great meal in a busy day is a big relief to us. They work really hard just to make our lifes nicer and to keep the economy going.

    Dentist going above and beyond

    by ShanaJ, 6 months ago

I would like to nominate Dr Audet at Kootenay Family Dental. He has seen emergency patients from throughout the region due to almost all offices being closed. He and the staff have kept many people out of the ER and the office has taken all possible precautions to keep everyone safe during their visit.

    Thank you Dr Audet

    Deb McIntosh

by Dianne Popoff , 6 months ago

I have known Deb Macintosh since we were kids, and I have seen her evolution as a person from a partying teenager to the incredible women she is today. She is strong, fair, and intelligent. She doesn’t take crap from anyone, but will bend over backwards to help someone truly in need. I could go on for an hour about her good days and what she has done for the community and its inhabitants but I won’t waste everyone’s time. People know who and what she is and I’m hoping, praying that she gets this castle guardianship. Thanks for everything... Continue reading

    A very special Castle Guardian

    by Sharlaglock, 6 months ago

    Hello,

I nominate Laura Ford to win Castle Guardian... she has donated countless hours to make masks, she spent her own money, she organized receiving fabric from others in the community to continue making masks. As new research became available - Laura updated the masks to include filters to increase the level of protection for us.
I am not even sure what she is charging for materials is actually covering her costs to make them. She is an exemplar citizen who is using her skills to help out her community during this very scary time.
    Thank you Laura!

Celina French: organized a car parade for seniors

    by Sabrina, 6 months ago

One of the stand out events that happened during this time has been the car parade that Celina French organized. It was to remind the seniors that they are a valued and loved population in our community.

It lifted the spirits of the people living in care who have been unable to see their families during this time. The people who live there are also only seeing masked faces and hearing muffled voices so it was so nice to see so many people go out of their way.

It was a very important way to have the community come together.

Deb McIntosh cares for Castlegar’s vulnerable residents

by Joan Alexander, 6 months ago

Deb McIntosh is the Director of the Castlegar Community Harvest Food Bank, Drop In and Warming Centre.

When our city began to feel the effects of COVID-19, Deb, along with the Board of Directors and volunteers, quickly organized alternative ways to check in and provide food and access to services to its clients. As physical distancing and maximum group numbers changed the Drop In hours, Deb instituted a meal delivery program. Also, a food hamper delivery program was arranged. Deb ramped up her fund raising efforts during this time, too, knowing that more people would be needing these services as... Continue reading

    Martech Donates to City Staff

by Bree Seabrook, 6 months ago

Martech sourced and donated 500 pairs of nitrile gloves to the hard working City of Castlegar employees. City crews are providing essential services in our community right now (water, sewer, garbage, and recycling to name a few) and Martech was able to help them stay safe with some needed PPE.
